To celebrate International Women’s Day, host Feet Banks connects with intrepid photographer Jody MacDonald to discuss ditching the office job, leaning into your passion and the value of insignificance in the face of nature’s most vast spaces. Podcast presented by Citizen Watch Canada.
Words :: Feet Banks.
Jody MacDonald might be the most badass person we have ever had on the podcast. An award-winning adventure and documentary photographer, she has visited over 100 countries in some of the most far-flung corners of the planet. Born in Ottawa, Jody spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Saudi Arabia before hopping aboard a ship and sailing around the world twice over the course of a decade (and getting seasick pretty much every day).
She’s guided in the mountains and rivers of BC, train hopped across the Sahara and paraglided in the Himalayas at over 17,000 feet. She’s been swimming with sharks (and elephants) and spoken on TedX stages. She’s published photos in every major magazine and worked with all the best outdoor brands. She’s won the Red Bull Illume photography contest and the World Open of Photography (and more). Once her doctor told her she had four years to live, tops.
In 2017 Men’s Journal named Jody “One of the 25 Most Adventurous Women in the past 25 Years” but here at Mountain Life we are stepping that up to “One of the Awesomest People Ever.”
Jody is also a member of the exclusive Citizen Watch Team Promaster and to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, she took a break from motorcycling through Nepal to chat about life, loss, and why toilet paper is the first thing she packs after her camera.
Check out the full pod and happy International Womens Day! (And can we please just let women rule the world now? It’s way past time, as current events prove.)
