This week’s Friday Flick is ‘Tim’, a film about a skier from Vail putting down unique lines.
In the heart of the American Rockies, where the air is thin and the snow stacks thick, there’s a skier named Tim Sackbauer. Raised in Vail, Colorado, Tim was born into a family where skiing is a way of life. From the time he could walk, he was chasing powder, carving his line down the mountain and discovering that it was more than a playground—it was a sanctuary.
Today as he approaches 30, Tim lives for the mountain. Whether it’s the rush of a speed descent or the quiet of a morning run, skiing is where he finds freedom, creativity and a path through life’s shifting terrain. When he’s not on skis, he’s training—always pushing to go faster and harder. And when dusk falls, you’ll find Tim in the company of family and friends, the same crew that’s been there encouraging him since day one.
Tim also happens to have Down syndrome. But in his world, that’s just another piece of information—not a limitation. For Tim and the rest of the Sackbauers, all that matters is the next stash, the next challenge and the neverending pursuit of the perfect turn. “Having a disability, all the challenges you have to face through life… yes it’s gonna be hard, yes it’s gonna be challenging,” says Tim. “But I say to myself, ‘Be calm, be collected. Because through life, you’ve got to face it.’ …When I imagine myself on a ski hill, I hear the wind calling, the wintery air on my face… and being with people, family and friends, it feels like you’re free. It’s like a heartbeat.”
