Have you ever dreamed of blending seamlessly into nature, becoming invisible to the wildlife around you, and embracing the rhythm of the forest? To experience this, you don’t necessarily have to spend the night in a rustic hunter’s cabin full of drafts. Le Hygge chalet, located in Lac-Beauport, Québec, offers the ultimate nature escape—wrapped in the most luxurious comfort imaginable in the wilderness.

The first thing that strikes you when you reach the end of Maelstrom road is the discovery of a chalet that, at first glance, seems to have no ground floor. Apart from a spiral staircase leading upstairs, the forest appears to continue uninterrupted by any structure. It’s only when you approach the snow-covered terrace that you see your own reflection and realize that the chalet’s façades are covered in large mirrors.

Le Hygge is designed to make you disappear completely into nature. The bedroom and bathroom are entirely concealed behind these one-way mirrored walls. From the inside, you have a fully transparent view of the surroundings, allowing you to observe the forest and its inhabitants without them noticing you. Whether you’re lounging in bed, soaking in the sunken bathtub, showering in the open-concept bathroom—or even using the toilet—you’re treated to uninterrupted views of the pristine, snow-covered forest floor.

The effect can be somewhat disorienting at first. In a world where privacy is often guarded behind curtains, hedges or high walls, experiencing such intimate moments in front of massive floor-to-ceiling windows can feel a little unsettling.

But after a while, the pleasure of having front-row seats to nature takes over, and you won’t be able to get enough of the 360-degree views.

The upper floor of Le Hygge is just as impressive. It acts as a grand perch, where you can relax in the hot tub, cook in the kitchen, or lounge in the living room, all while observing the forest and its wildlife—completely undisturbed.

Privacy is never an issue here. There are absolutely no neighbours in sight, aside from another Maelström chalet several hundred metres away, high up on the mountain.

The Maelström estate, home to around 30 chalets, is a vast property on Mont-Tourbillon, in the municipality of Lac-Beauport, just a 30-minute drive from Québec City. The mountain peaks at 585 metres and offers an impressive four-season playground spanning 3.34 million square metres. Covered with a mix of hardwood and coniferous forests, the estate stands out for its unique Bike & Sleep chalet experience.

This means you can head straight out from your accommodation for a mountain biking adventure or winter snowshoeing session on the impressive network of nearby Sentiers du Moulin trails. The area also boasts prime fat biking opportunities, with 38 km of trails accessible just a five-minute drive from Maelström.

On foot, be sure to strap on some snowshoes and hike from Le Hygge chalet to the summit of Mont-Tourbillon. From there, you’ll be rewarded with views of the entire region north of Québec City, with Lac Beauport nestled below.
