Prestigious Italian bootmaker Olang has launched its Winter 2022/2023 collection that displays equal measures of bold, unexpected style and cold-weather functionality and protection.

Most Olang winter boots come equipped with foldable and/or swivelling cleats with stainless steel studs, the ideal ally for the icy, unforgiving Canadian winter. Their lineup is rugged—these aren’t just hiking or fashion boots with a bit of insulation. Olangs will stand up in the Alps or a northern Ontario winter.

We tried Olang’s Spider VB for men which features a Vibram outsole (no cleats). This is an ultralight winter boot that fits like a hiker but offers all kinds of warmth, with an original shearling lining, WINTHERM multilayer membrane and a removable 90-percent-wool ISOWARM insole.
The BREATH.TEX waterproof-breathable membrane enlarges your scope for use on all sorts of messy-weather days. The boots are comfort-rated to -30°C but won’t overheat you when it turns mild.

Meanwhile, the Vibram outsole with self-adaptive lugs helps out over the trickiest winter terrain, including ice-covered rock. The ankle support is sturdy, almost like a mountaineering boot but with a more forgiving flex. And the lacing system (eyelets and metal hooks with bellows) is similar to a hiking boot and just as multi-adjustable.
We highly recommend this brilliantly designed boot both for everyday use and backcountry winter hiking/snowshoeing.
