Magicshine’s Monteer boasts four brightness settings, each bright enough to light up the trail for your friends as well.

Riding singletrack at night is the best. There’s no way around it. And as the days get shorter, being able to ride after dark extends the amount of time you can spend on the bike. But you want a bright light for it to actually be fun. Magicshine has you covered. The fairly sleek Monteer provides a whopping 6500 lumens of maximum power and a battery that will run that for 1.5-to-2 hours.

Multiple mounts allow you to attach it to your helmet or your handlebars, and the separate battery pack can go in your backpack or mount to your frame. With four different brightness settings, each setting is bright enough to light up the trail for your friends as well. Especially the guy that shows up with a flashlight duct-taped to his handlebars.

The 7.2V 10,000 mAh battery provides plenty of power and charges with a common USB cable you probably already own multiple of. It also has a small remote which can be added to your handlebars, or anywhere you want, that pairs easily and allows you to turn the whole system on and off easily.

Overall, I’m super stoked on this light. At $499 it ain’t cheap, but as long as the cable is rugged enough to last and the battery life remains strong, this will be the light I ride with from now on. –Colin Field

Mounting System

Mounting System

My main gripe is the mounting system; it works great, but requires tools. I generally realize I’m going night riding at the last possible second and hate having to fiddle with tools to mount it, as well as find whichever rubber shim is going to fit my desired situation. Of course you could just mount it to one bike and leave it there, but who only has one bike these days? Preposterous! And as a GoPro user, I know how well that mounting system works. Why can’t light companies just copy that system? No tools needed.
