Later this summer, Arc’teryx will be in downtown Toronto promoting scavenging.

In celebration of the opening of its first Toronto flagship retail store, the Canadian-grown outerwear manufacturer and retailer will host a Crowd the Store contest, starting with a scavenger hunt in the downtown core.

On Saturday, August 16, locals will search for one Arc’teryx chalk bag with a $250 gift card in a location that highlights Arc’teryx’s products and commitment to outdoor lifestyles. The bag will contain instructions on how to redeem the prize and potentially increase the prize pool to over $5,000, including a trip for two to Whistler.

Located at 339 Queen Street West, between John Street and Peter Street, the 2,817 square-foot store will open to the public on August 23 at 11 a.m.

Named for ARCHAEOPTERYX LITHOGRAPHICA, the first reptile to develop the feather for flight, freeing itself from the constraints of the horizontal world.

Ontario customers will now have access to Arc’teryx’s complete line of products beginning with the current 2014 Fall collection. Customers will also have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the company’s innovative and forward-thinking design process via special engagement areas inside the store.
“As a proud Canadian born and bred company, we are excited to continue to grow our presence in our home country with the new brand store in Toronto. This new location allows us to better equip Toronto’s passionate outdoor community with our complete range of functional, minimalist and stylish performance products,” says Adam Ketcheson – VP/Senior Director, Marketing & B2C.

All Arc’teryx product design, research and development is undertaken in-house at the company’s head office in North Vancouver.

FRIDAY FLICK 💥 This past March, speed mountaineer Benedikt Böhm @benediktboehm rocked a five-hour sea-to-summit expedition up Mount Parnassus in central Greece. Starting at sea level on his road bike at the village of Itea on the Gulf of Corinth, he climbed up to an altitude of 2.414 metres. #linkinbio to watch the film!
I had no idea what to expect from this trip, neither from bikepacking, a fancy term for cycle touring and a sport I’d never done before, nor from Kyrgyzstan, a country most people cannot find on a map. Carl, who I’d only just met recently after moving to Canada—I’d flagged him down after backcountry skiing after seeing his Montana license plate—had invited me on this trip while on a mountain bike ride. I said no. A few weeks later I figured, “Why not?”

"@normhann and I lashed paddleboards to the roof of his truck and headed north along the Island Highway, towards Telegraph Cove. Norm had invited me to tag along on a commercial paddleboard group he would be guiding in the Broughton Archipelago. Despite a long history of SUP expeditions, I harboured some reservations."
To date, more than 6,000 people have summitted Everest, the highest point on Earth at 8,848.86 metres of elevation above sea level. And only a tiny handful of those climbers have been Black.
