The SuperStrand XT Hoodie (available for women or men) builds on the stoke of the SuperStrand LT, adding enhanced warmth for colder, more demanding conditions. (The limited edition XT differs from the LT in its hybrid insulation and new NetPlus shell—more on that below.) Designed for alpine climbs, backcountry tours and brisk trail days alike, the XT delivers lightweight insulation in a sleek package.
Our tester Jane found the Superstrand XT to be a friend in need on a recent October canoe trip in northern Ontario. “Well, it wasn’t exactly a canoe trip,” she says. “I was at a reunion for the summer camp where I was a counsellor for years, and a bunch of us paddled across the lake for a picnic. But when we got over there, the weather turned and we had to hunker down for an hour. It was a cold north wind and heavy driving rain. My new SuperStrand XT fit perfectly under my rain shell. The other women had fleeces and were a little chilly. They couldn’t believe how small the XT packed down. Stuffing it into its own pocket is like a magic trick. Everyone wanted to try it on when we got back to the camp. The next day was also a bit rainy so I wore the XT without a shell jacket and it kept the rain off. Unlike a down puffy, it can handle a light rain and stay warm and even repel most of the water.”
