We spent a season in the backcountry pushing Montec bibs through deep snow, harsh conditions, and long days—here’s what we found.
Gear gets tested fast in the Coast Mountains. Unpredictable conditions, long days out, and back-to-back wear—the kind of testing that makes or breaks what you’re wearing. We planned to take the Montec Arch Snowboard Pants Men for a few trips, just to see how they handled it. But after weeks of riding, they became the bibs we kept reaching for all season.
Deep powder, Arctic cold snaps, storm days, slushy afternoons, and more than a few soakings in heavy, wet snow—these bibs handled it all. No matter the conditions, they’ve kept us dry, warm, and moving freely without a second thought. Waterproofing held up through it all—from long days in heavy snow to unexpected downpours in the alpine. And despite the burly protection, they never felt like a sweatbox. Even after bootpacking, digging, or sessioning a jump in the sun, they stayed comfortable without overheating.
What We Love
- Nicely waterproof. 20K waterproof rating, fully taped seams, and PFAS-free DWR treatment kept moisture out, even after hours in wet snow.
- Breathable when it counts. 20K breathability + zippered vents kept things cool on backcountry hikes and sunny shovel sessions—no overheating.
- Dialed-in fit. Roomy enough to layer up but still mobile—no stiffness, no bunching.
- Suspenders that stay put. Comfortable and secure, no digging in or shifting—key for long days on the move.
- Looks as good as it rides. Clean lines, a modern fit, and just the right amount of bagginess.
- Eco-conscious without compromise. Made with recycled materials and bluesign®-approved fabrics, so you get performance with a lower environmental impact.
What We Didn’t Love
We tried to find a flaw. Something. Anything. But after a full season of riding in every possible condition, we haven’t found one. Now it makes sense why these bibs are so popular.
For those who run cold, Montec offers an insulated version (40g Comfortemp® thermal insulation). But for riders who like to layer, the shell version (which we tested) was ideal for adapting to changing conditions.
Also worth mentioning: Montec had our back off the mountain, too. Even with the Canada Post strike causing shipping delays, their customer service stayed on it, keeping us updated and making sure everything arrived as smoothly as possible.
After a full season of riding, there’s not much more we could ask for. No unnecessary extras—just a reliable, weatherproof, and durable pair of snowboard pants that handled everything we threw at them. Tried, tested, and worn all season, they’ve earned their place in the kit.
