Owned by the Huter family since Day 1, Louis (as the locals call it) still maintains a friendly, down to earth feel. Conveniently located in Ontario’s Snowbelt region, Louis is the choice resort for freestyle riders, especially after big snowfalls. Its Outback and Junk Yard terrain parks have also helped countless snowboarders such as Simon Chamberlain jumpstart their pro careers.
This moderately sized mountain features nine chairlifts, 36 runs and has an impressive uphill capacity of 23,600 people per hour so you can easily get in several runs during a short session. Last year, Louis celebrated its 50th birthday by offering night riding. This season, the resort will be upgrading the Moonstone chalet, adding the fi nal touches to their lighting system, and installing new chairs on the Gentle Ben triple lift.
Things tend to be pretty quiet around Louis during the off-season, but this summer saw personal trainer Jillian Sargent host weekly boot camp and hill training classes. Those hoping to get some road cycling in can also take a scenic 8 km ride south along Ingram Road until they reach the Copeland Forest.
