Adventure Grant

mountain life media adventure grant

Mountain Life Media has been telling tales of adventure from all over the world for more than 18 years. It’s what we truly care about, and what we want to share.

In an effort to support amazing people and the outdoor exploits they embark on, we are proud to present the Mountain Life Adventure Grant. Aimed at supporting expeditions that push the limits of outdoor exploration, our goal is to help fund adventures with an eye for authenticity, diversity, and a healthy dose of wow-factor. We are interested in keeping the tradition and culture of storytelling alive and well, and to promote our Grantees so they can continue to pursue their outdoor dreams.

Applicants will be judged on previous experience in their chosen field of adventure, their expedition’s uniqueness and ethical responsibility, the potential for epic storytelling in both print and digital, stunning photography and/or cinematography, and how it all relates to Mountain Life readers.

We can’t wait to see where your journey takes us.

Criteria

Mountain Life supports unique expeditions that represent diversity in the adventure world, both in the people who undertake these endeavours and in the outdoor sport(s) they choose. We publish stories from all walks of mountain culture and lifestyle — climbing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, stand-up paddling, paragliding, mountain biking, canyoneering, trekking, canoeing, and other outdoor pursuits that align with our own Mountain Life voice.

‘Combo’ trips that undertake more than one outdoor pursuit, as well as worldwide trips that involve or empower locals and have a humanitarian, charitable aspect are strongly encouraged. We are looking for well-rounded, well thought-out, ethically-responsible expeditions to help support. Think BIG —there are no geographical boundaries.

Details:

  • Anything where participants require a bib number won’t be considered.
  • We will require to see examples of writing, photography and cinematography as separate links within your proposal.
  • Professional athletes or big-name social media influencers aren’t a necessity.

  • Participants must possess appropriate safety gear and communication devices relevant for the location and activity, and file a trip report with local authorities where necessary.
  • Leave no trace ethics are an absolute must.

Deliverables

What we require from the expedition after successful completion:

  • Written feature article(s) that will appear in one or more issues of Mountain Life Magazine.
  • A selection of 40-60 diverse, high-resolution images to illustrate the written word. Images will be used in our publications and within all of our digital properties. We also reserve the right to use imagery to promote the ML Adventure Grant in the future.
  • Black and white portraits (head shots) of all team members.
  • If there is a video/film component to your expedition, we request that the Mountain Life logo be present in all forms of the video release.

The Grant

Grant amounts are available from CAD$2,000.00 to CAD$5,000.00, based upon the overall scope and scale of the expedition*.

Deadline

Dude to COVID, the Adventure Grant is on temporary pause. We hope to announce a press release in the fall of 2021 regarding the statues of the grant.

Applications

Please send all expedition proposals, in PDF format, to [email protected]

CLINIC REGISTRATION NOW OPEN 🗣
The way normal people cross the Pacific Ocean in a 37-foot sailboat from Hawaii to San Francisco, explains my neighbour Joel Jacques, is to crew up the boat with six to seven sailors, set the autopilot at 90 degrees straight east, wave to your buddies on the dock, and head for North America.
"I’ve been fortunate enough to spend more than 35 summers here in the Sea to Sky Corridor and I can wholeheartedly say one of my favourite weekends of the year is coming to Squamish at the end of August— The Arc’teryx Climbing Academy."
Have you ever noticed how loss leads to renewal? The 1997 closure of Banff’s buffalo paddock is a good example. Spreading over approximately 30 hectares and surrounded by a 2.5-metre-high wire mesh fence, it held anywhere from ten to 107 captive bison during its century of operation. Conveniently located close to the town of Banff and right beside the Trans-Canada Highway, it was a favourite stopover for locals and tourists to gawk at North America’s largest land mammal from the comfort of their car. Where else in the park could you be guaranteed such a wildlife experience?
Who else got high this weekend? ☁️😉 #mountainlifer

FRIDAY FLICK! 🎥
@norcobicycles has cracked the code to creating a full suspension mountain bike with top-end performance for advanced riders that’s also perfect for aspiring newcomers.
LIVE IT UP EP 13 IS OUT NOW! In 2005, with $20,00 earned the hard way (a car hit him whilst riding his bicycle), @robinesrock embarked on a 23-country round the world tour with no real plan except to say yes to everything and let the wierdness lead the way. Along the way, he basically invented travel blogging (for better or for worse), kicked off a storied television and publishing career, and became one of the most storied and interesting dudes we know.
