Arc’teryx adds one of the world’s top ultrarunners to its roster as the brand continues its push into trail running.
China’s Fuzhao Xiang is one of the most accomplished women in the sport. She finished second among women at the punishing Western States 100 for the last two years, with her 2024 run ranking as the third-fastest women’s performance in race history. She also holds two wins at Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji, where she defended her 2023 title by over 70 minutes.
“The mountains are an integral part of who I am, as essential to me as water, every time I go into them is a chance to go beyond myself and show what’s possible,” Xiang said.
Xiang is known for her performance on steep, technical courses, terrain where efficiency and skill matter as much as fitness. That profile fits what Arc’teryx has been building toward: the brand has been expanding aggressively in footwear, and elite athletes are a core part of how that product gets developed and tested under real conditions.
“The mountains are an integral part of who I am, as essential to me as water…”
She joins a roster that has grown quickly over the past year, with the brand bringing on a string of trail athletes alongside her. The pattern suggests trail running is a genuine priority, not just a backdrop for selling gear.
“Joining Arc’teryx marks a new beginning—one that allows me to keep progressing in a wider range of mountain environments, and share the unique appeal of trail running with more people,” Xiang said. “To me, the brand is not just a supporter behind the scenes, but a true partner, and I’m excited to explore more possibilities that lie ahead.”
Female trail runners have historically had fewer sponsorship opportunities than their male counterparts, and the gap at the elite level is real. Signings like this one matter less as gestures and more as evidence—of where a brand is actually putting its resources, and who it considers worth building around. –Bronwyn Biro
