Best known for creating the original Swiss Army Knife, inventor Karl Elsener founded Victorinox in 1884 in Ibach, Switzerland. Originally called the Swiss Officer’s and Sport Knife, Elsener patented the invention in 1897, partly to reduce the Swiss reliance on German blade technology.
