This quality-infused puffy from Mammut might be the most sustainable on the market.
The feeling is unbeatable: a high-quality puffy jacket keeping winter’s chill at bay while you’re out in the elements, reaping the endorphins. What if you could turn up that feeling to 11?

Mammoth’s Sender IN (available for men and women) can help with that. With a tough, wind-repellent, weather-ready shell with a bit of stretch (9% Spandex, 91% recycled polyester), this puffy is your friend in need for active pursuits. It’s light enough to stash away during a hike but warm and protective enough for when the wind bites.

All that, and you can feel even better about the jacket’s sustainability. Not only is the jacket made from 100% recycled materials, but it is also insulated with repurposed rope scraps—Mammut’s LOOPINSULATION.
What is LOOPINSULATION, Exactly?
LOOPINSULATION transforms industrial rope production offcuts from Mammut’s factories and turns them into mountain-ready insulation.
When Mammut’s engineers tested reused rope for insulation, they found that while climbing ropes made from polyamide weren’t effective, offcuts made from polyester ropes had excellent insulating properties.
First, the offcuts undergo a mechanical recycling process. The ropes are untwisted into single rope strands, which are then brushed together and combined with recycled plastic to create polyester sheets or clusters (using no extra chemicals).
Inside Mammut jackets, this insulation is powerful, heat-trapping, compressible—and, crucially, it stays warm even when wet.
The warm-when-wet factor gives LOOPINSULATION a leg up.
We didn’t do a Pepsi Challenge on LOOPINSULATION vs. down, but I suspect the former cannot boast quite the same loft as down. However, the warm-when-wet factor gives it a leg up. It also breathes better than your average puffy, and doesn’t feel clammy. Pair that with the wind-repellent outer fabric (burlier than other puffies) and the Sender IN can serve as a reliable standalone on cold, windy days, but probably not on the very coldest days (though you could pair it with a heavy-gauge shell).
Taken together, its circular-economy design and responsible, bluesign-approved production place the Sender IN Hooded Jacket at the leading edge of the sustainability standards all outdoor brands should strive to meet.
