Two of PrintReleaf’s active reforestation projects (where Mountain Life’s reforestation has happened) exemplify how this model supports both ecological and human communities:
British Columbia — Reclaiming the Cariboo
Devastated by wildfires in 2017, 2018, and 2021, the Cariboo region saw a shocking 1.3 million hectares of forest consumed in flames. These fires didn’t just destroy trees—they obliterated soil health, disrupted wildlife habitats and upended Indigenous communities.
An estimated 13 million trees will be planted to heal the scarred land. (The forestry partner for this project is Veritree.) The mix of species—Douglas fir, lodgepole and Ponderosa pines, hybrid spruce, and western larch—will restore biodiversity and create conditions for natural regeneration. This effort aims to rebuild not just a forest, but a future for the communities that depend on it.
Malaysia — Community-Led Conservation
On the banks of the Kinabatangan River in East Sabah, degraded forest once stripped by illegal logging and fire is getting a second chance. With help from local communities in Batu Puteh, PrintReleaf and its partners clear invasive species and plant native saplings—including tarap, palaquium, durian and sterculia—grown in a village-run nursery. (The forestry partner is One Tree Planted.)
This project not only revives ecosystems but also sustains local livelihoods, offering fair, gender-equal employment for over 15 people—with plans to double that number.
PrintReleaf aims to support ecosystem restoration by selecting appropriate tree species for specific regions, with an emphasis on positive long-term ecological and community impact.
