My Gear Needed a Shed.
For many years, my bikes, skis, paddleboards and camping stuff lived an untidy double (or triple) life. Bikes lived in the garage, crammed against the wall, crowded by the lawn mower or wheelbarrow. My inflatable paddleboards lived in the basement, piled in a corner. My skis, boots and poles lived in another corner of the basement in the winter and in the attic in the summer. In short, nothing was ideally situated.
And due to this multi-location disorganization, my ability to be ready for a powder morning, a last-minute paddle trip or bike ride was a bit impeded. Space in our house and garage is fairly limited but as a editor who reviews a lot of gear, my collection continues to grow.

I won’t say assembly was a piece of cake, but we completed it with less swearing than a comparable IKEA build. Two of us did it in less than six hours, stretched over two days. (Not including measuring and preparing the ground, getting it level and adding limestone dust and concrete tiles for the base—that’s a bit of a project, too.)
Twin wide-swinging doors make loading bikes, kayaks, or skis/snowboards a breeze, and the handle is padlock-ready. The integrated upper windows bring in plenty of natural light—no fumbling in the dark for that one elusive tool or bike pump.
What really sets the Artisan apart is the DUOTECH wall system. These panels aren’t just durable, they’re customizable. You can paint the exterior to match your aesthetic or drill into them to hang racks, shelves, or any gear-specific storage mods you can dream up. Keter offers a bunch of options. We added a freestanding four-level metal shelving unit, plus several screw-in plastic wall shelves to start. We plan to add to the interior storage layout as we decide what goes where.
Inside, the high ceiling design provides ample vertical space—no more ducking or awkward shuffling—and the reinforced roof structure is built to take a beating. We’re talking serious snow loads here. For folks in alpine or northern climates, that means peace of mind when the white stuff starts piling up. However, if we have another winter like 2025, we would utilize a snow rake.
One quibble re: the roof in the summer heat. Namely, it’s black. It will absorb all the heat of a summer day. A light, reflective shade would have been preferable. So it will be hot in there in the summer, but built-in ventilation panels (parallel with the windows) provide excellent air circ. This isn’t your grandpa’s dark, dank shed. You can store your valuable gear in here and know it is secure and won’t become mouldy.
The shed is waterproof and resists rot, rust, and peeling, no matter what the elements throw at it.
