We love this concept: “Every surface is a trail.” Columbia’s catchphrase for their new Konos Featherweight shoe (for men or women) is an idea with a lot of appeal.
With a minimalist ultra-breathable woven upper and adaptive cushioning and traction system, this omni-surface runner hits several sweet spots all in one place.
Konos Featherweight: Fit and Feel
Right out of the box, the Konos Featherweight fits like it was custom-moulded—no pinched toes, no pressure points and no hot spots. The tongue and collar envelop the foot naturally, feeling almost like part of your foot, so you can focus on the surface ahead with zero distractions.
Long-Haul Cushioning
The TechLite+ midsole (total ride height: 27.5 mm heel/17.5 mm toe) is plush enough to take the sting out of bumpy trails, yet responsive enough to keep things lively underfoot. After a few longer outings on the Bruce Trail, my knees and ankles weren’t complaining—a good sign that the midsole foam is providing all its touted benefits.
Stable through the Switchbacks
I put these shoes through steep climbs, loose descents and tight turns on mixed trails and roads, and they held firm. The platform offers enough support to keep my Achilles happy, and the lockdown in the midfoot gave me the stability I needed when things got a little more technical. I stayed away from the highly technical Bruce Trail “rock garden” sections (a purpose-built trail runner is what’s needed here).

Traction I Can Trust
We’d had a light rain the night before one of my runs, just enough to make everything slick. Even then, the Konos Featherweight held its grip. Whether on the trail or the curb, I never felt like I was going to lose footing. However, the lack of lugs (ie, the minimum 4mm treads typical of trail-runners) means less aggressive traction, though this is an understandable compromise for a shoe that can double as a light-duty road runner.
Final Thoughts
The Konos Featherweight offers a thoughtful balance: light enough to pick up the pace, cushioned enough to protect and supportive enough to keep you going day after day (on pavement or trail). The shoe lands squarely between a race-flat workhorse and an overbuilt trail monster. If you demand versatility above all, the Konos Featherweight is a solid companion, at a more reasonable price point than much of the competition.
