What happens when you take world-class trail designers from Gravity Logic, sprinkle that talent over rugged mountains with a rich mountain bike history spanning 40+ years and make it lift-access? You get a mud-splattered baptism into the halls of mountain bike lore, complete with an ear-to-ear shit-eating grin that will last well past après.

RED Mountain Resort in Rossland, BC has completed phase one of four in the evolution of the well established Silverlode trail network. Traditionally accessed from the Pilgrim Climb trail, the Silverlode Chair will be spinning for summer 2025 providing effortless access to classic trails like Dragon Tail and the newly renovated Pay Dirt for your berm roosting pleasure.
The name of the game for phase one is progression. With three new trails (for a total of 15) and a revamp of existing trails, RED’s vision for the bike park is “to create a destination where beginners feel like experts and seasoned riders can still be humbled. A place where progression is celebrated and every rider is challenged at their level.” There’s everything from blue and black jump trails to puckering double-black technical singletrack. And this is just the start of their ambitious four year expansion plan that includes continued support for the Kootenay Columbia Trails Society to grow and maintain the extensive network which means “building upon and supporting the already deep culture of biking here in the region,” said Howard Katkov, CEO and owner of RED Mountain Resort.

Truly great things don’t need to tell you they’re great, you’ll reach that conclusion all on your own. The understated trails in Rossland definitely own this motto and punch way above their weight class. Unlike some of the more boujee BC bike towns, Rossland’s network is built with a work ethic that runs generations deep from its whiskey bootlegging and mining roots on a foundation of hallowed Kootenay dirt. With hard-earned calloused hands and a frontier boldness that makes its own rules the new bike park will continue the legacy of steep and rowdy, long and epic, and downright playful riding while incorporating inclusive trails for any skill level.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit this cornerstone destination of Kootenay shredding, this is the year. And, the good folks at RED are inviting you to join for free! This weekend getaway for two includes 4-night stay at the Josie Hotel with breakfast included, 3 days of bike park riding bliss, bike rentals, RED bike park swag, and food and beverage credit. The contest is now live until May 28th, and you can sign up here for your chance to win
Need more encouragement? The new episodes of Standing on the Shoulders video series will get you hyped. Episode one chronicles the storied history of Kootenay riding, the new park trails and what to expect in years to come, while episode two captures the creativity and drive behind RED’s new gravity-fed dream.
