The Ferreol Explo 96 is more than just a well-engineered ski. It’s a statement—that performance and sustainability can coexist without compromise.

Words :: Ludovic P. Légaré

Whether you’re earning your turns in the backcountry, exploring sidecountry terrain or linking arcs on your favourite inbound line, the Explo 96 ski adapts effortlessly.

For advanced skiers who value thoughtful design, Canadian craftsmanship for the Canadian landscape, and a lighter footprint on the planet, the Explo 96 isn’t just a good choice—it’s a meaningful one.

Handcrafted in Quebec, Ferreol skis are built using a thoughtful blend of innovative materials and sustainable technologies. Their cores combine lightweight aspen and paulownia wood for an ideal balance of strength and low weight, while layers of natural flax fiber—a renewable alternative to traditional fiberglass—provide excellent vibration damping and a smooth, stable ride.

Ferréol also incorporates bio-based resins in their construction to further reduce environmental impact. All skis are designed, prototyped and manufactured locally—their R&D lab is in Beaupré, and their manufacturing facility is in Rimouski—allowing the brand to maintain tight quality control and minimize their carbon footprint, while supporting a transparent and responsible production process rooted in their passion for skiing and environmental stewardship.

For avid skiers seeking a ski that balances performance, versatility and sustainability, the Explo 96 is a compelling option: the carbon footprint is equivalent to 23.51 kg CO₂ (comparable to the emissions from driving a small car over 124 kilometres, which is roughly the distance from Vancouver to Whistler, or Montreal to Tremblant).

When tested, our consensus was that the ski felt quite stable and at the same time very agile. We agreed that the 96 maintains its reputation as an All-Mountain ski. Funnily enough, on the ski they’ve written ‘’Agile et Fougueux” (meaning “Agile and Fiery”). Well, that’s how we would describe them. These were like little tanks on the slopes in spring conditions as much as in the woods, capable of sharp turns while being sturdy and reliable.

Ferreol’s thoughtful design and construction can handle a wide range of ski conditions in both eastern and western Canada, making the Explo 96 an unbeatable companion for both resort and backcountry endeavours.
