Burton Evergreen Hooded Down Jacket

The BURTON EVERGREEN HOODED DOWN JACKET (available in men’s or women’s) is that rare puffy that breathes while still holding oven-strength heat. Burton’s Living Lining tech boasts breathable “pores” that expand or contract based on temperature. Another bonus is its windproof design, plus bluesign approved materials and responsibly sourced down. www.burton.com

Temp-Regulation in a Down Puffy?!

Temp-Regulation in a Down Puffy?!
95 100 0 1
Believe it. Most down puffies don’t really breathe but Burton’s Living Lining offers automatic climate control without added bulk or weight, so the one thing you can count on is consistent comfort. When you’re warm, breathable pores on the Living Lining expand to release excess warmth and prevent overheating. When you’re cold, breathable pores on the Living Lining shrink to trap body heat and keep you warmer for longer.

Jack Wolfskin Argo Peak Jacket

We like jackets that can be used for many different things and the JACK WOLFSKIN ARGO PEAK JACKET ticks a lot of outdoor boxes. This windproof down jacket is warm enough to wear on its own if you’re out snowshoeing on a January day, and breathable enough to wear under a shell. This RDS-certified 800-fill down beauty is also stylish enough to wear on a date night in a mountain town. www.jack-wolfskin.com

PFC-free Materials

PFC-free Materials

PFCs (per- and poly-fluoride chemicals) are substances used on the surfaces of items to give them water-repellent properties. As it is still not clear which PFCs are “good” (i.e. degradable) and which ones are not, Jack Wolfskin took the decision to eliminate them all from their entire collection. They are now very close to attaining that goal: all Jack Wolfskin clothing and equipment is now completely PFC-free. And they are steadily increasing the number of PFC-free shoes in their collection.

Daehlie North Jacket

The North Jacket is a hooded, windproof, XC-friendly softshell meant for moderate-intensity training. The Bionic Finish Eco® technology on the fabric surface ensures that light rain and sleet run off. Mesh panels below arms and on back provide ventilation and mobility. The jacket has a higher neck than average and a lightweight sretchy hood with brushed interior that provides good insulation during high-output missions. We’ve used the North Jacket on its own (with a Merino layer underneath) when we’re working really hard, or under an insulative layer in cold conditions. www.mec.ca

Wildhorn Delano X2

The Delano X2 is Wildhorn’s updated snowshoe, boasting a cold-resistant and ultralight thermoplastic front decking, and overall increased surface area for added flotation. The 7075 aluminum alloy frame and electroplated steel crampon offer a good weight-to-strength ratio. The quick-cinch bindings are a breeze to tighten and loosen with easy single-pulls and the self-locking heel strap is very effective. Some snowshoe heel straps are a hassle and can loosen during use but this very secure and quick system is the Delano X2’s standout feature. www.wildhornoutfitters.com

The combo of the self-locking heel strap and the quick-cinch tighten/loosen pull system for the two forefoot straps add up to a very secure and easy-to-handle binding that you won’t have to fuss over. No more cold hands while tending to your binding—you can adjust the Delano X2 with your gloves on.
