Picture Seen Jacket

The fabric of the Picture Seen Jacket for women is made with a combination of sugarcane waste and recycled PET, reducing carbon emissions by 25 per cent. Combined with a 20k/20k membrane and a PFC-free DWR treatment, this jacket keeps riders warm and dry while creating less environmental impact. www.picture-organic-clothing.com

The body mapping construction incorporates Picture’s Thermal Dry System that wicks away sweat where you need it most, and a Coremax lining eliminates cold spots. The fully-taped seams, wrist gaiters, and waterproof zippers keep moisture out. For enhanced protection and fit, the hood, cuffs, and powder skirt that attaches to your pants are all adjustable.

Conventional technical polyester fabric (PET) consists petro-chemical compounds. Thankfully other solutions exist. Picture has been using recycled polyester made from used plastic bottles since the very beginning in 2008. However, they are always looking for new solutions to directly or indirectly wipe out their dependence on fossil fuels. Bio-sourcing represents one of these solutions. In the case of a snow jacket, it means creating a fabric partially made with plant material such as sugar cane. In general, plants that contain sucrose (beets, sugar cane) or starch (wheat, corn…) can be transformed into bio-mono ethylene glycol (Bio-MEG) to replace conventional petroleum-based MEG. 30% of Picture’s technical collection is made of bio-polyester, a percentage which is expected to grow yearly.

The Cloud Mid Polar Waterproof is a hybrid hiker that will serve you well on cold days in fall or spring—or in early or late winter. With 100 grams of insulation and a fleece lining, these mids will keep you warm but aren’t meant to replace a winter boot in deep snow and frigid cold. Think of them as a boot for transitional cold weather, when the trail demands flexibility. We found the FloatEco Foam midsole and cushy, flexible outsole delivered slipper-like comfort and responsive grip on variable terrain.

Kari Traa Tirill Jacket

Meet the ultimate cool-weather running/nordic ski layer for women: the Tirill Jacket. Engineered for active warmth and water-repellency, this is a lightly insulated hoody with flattering lines and strategic stretch panels. Built using a stitchless ultrasonic quilt technique, it’s all about body-mapping: water-repellent sections on the hood and shoulders keep you dry during fall/spring or mild winter weather, while insulation in the front and back minimizes core heat loss, and elastane in the arms, underarms and lower front/back encourages freedom of movement. And if you’re looking for a hoody with a little more warmth, check out Kari Traa’s Voss Hybrid.

The multi-features add up to a lot of protection in variable weather. The main fabric (stretch nylon with Rudolf Bionic Finish® DWR treatment) offers protection from wind and rain. Mapped insulation offers enough warmth for winter wear as part of a layering system or independently on less frigid days. However, if you sweat a lot, the full-back insulation will not breathe as much as a higher-output material.

Got Bag RollTop Backpack

Drum roll please… introducing the Got Bag ROLLTOP Backpack, the world’s first such backpack made of recycled ocean plastic. With a “trash to treasure” supply chain harvested by a network of fishermen off the north coast of Java, Indonesia, the plastic bycatch is recycled, turned into robust, PET pellet yarn and weaved into this thing of beauty. The backpack itself is also 100 per cent recyclable, thus contributing to an all-important circular economy. www.camplifestyle.ca
