For our inaugural foray into living it up on the airwaves, Mountain Life Coast Mountains editor Feet Banks sits down with legendary climber/alpinist Tim Emmett to talk about getting outside, getting gnarly, knowing when to pull back from a goal, and why having a kid changes the game.
“The difference between being 21 and being 47 is … I’ve had a lot of friends pass away,” says Emmett. “I’ve been to lots of funerals and I’ve dealt with a lot of parents and a lot of other people who have had to come to terms with the person they love not being there. As a result of that, I’ve seen the impact of making poor decisions. For me on this trip to Everest, it was a no-brainer. As soon as I saw the picture, which was taken by one of the sherpas I’d just been climbing with the day before, I could tell by the way he looked at me as he showed me the photo that he was concerned. And he’s got 18 Everest summits…”
