Helly Hansen’s S.Cafe Tech: Sustainable Sun Protection

We’re highly focused on the importance of baselayers in snow season. But it’s just as important in our lengthening summers, even if (or especially if) the base is the only layer you’re wearing. Finding a material that offers moisture management, breathability, sun protection, sustainability and comfort is a really tall order. Helly Hansen’s Solen collection may be the answer.

It is made of Helly Hansen’s longstanding high-performance fabric, LIFA Active, combined with a recent innovation called S.Café. Through a low-temperature, high-pressure, energy-saving process, recycled coffee grounds are infused during fiber creation to boost UPF protection to 50+. (UPF = Ultraviolet Protection Factor.) And it will never wash out.

What’s more, the micro-pores on S.Café coffee grounds absorb odors and maintain the UPF value both when wet and dry. They also offer up to 200% faster drying time when compared with cotton. And S.Café technology obviates the need for any chemical treatments that can harm the environment.
