Back in 1993, Patagonia started to transform trash into fleece. Their first recycled sweaters, made from discarded plastic soda bottles, set the industry standard. Today, the recycled content of their apparel lineup keeps growing.

Their Snow Pile Jacket and Bibs for babies/toddlers boast recycled polyester with absolutely no diminishment in performance or durability.

In fact you’d be hard-pressed to find better-made or better-designed kids apparel anywhere. These garments will have long lives, passed on to other youngsters when yours grow out of them. And that’s exactly how it should be.

Baby/Toddler Snow Pile Jacket

This waterproof, fully seam-sealed jacket for babies and toddlers (sizes range up to 5T) offers warmth and wet-weather protection with an H2No Performance Standard shell and 150 grams of (92% recycled-content) insulation.

The jacket is full of features made to please parents and finicky young ones. The drop-tail hem adds extra warmth and protection from wind and cold. The Grow-fit feature in sleeves adds 2 inches in length for extended wear. And the regular fit is roomy enough for a layer underneath when temps really drop. And the H2No Performance Standard shell really works. Our four-year-old tester jumped and rolled in wet leaves for half an hour—and emerged dry on the inside, and happy.

FEATURES IN A NUTSHELL

100% recycled polyester shell is waterproof and fully seam-sealed; 150-g THERMOLITE® ECO92 100% polyester (92% recycled) insulation shields from cold
Snap-off, removable three-panel hood is insulated and has an elasticized gusset under the brim for warmth and a secure fit
Full-length waterproof zipper with internal wind flap and zipper garage
Two handwarmer pockets and a left-sleeve pass pocket secure with a snap and have a pull tab for easy access

Fully elasticized sleeve openings and drop-tail hem help keep out the cold
Reflective trim details on sleeves, zipper pull and all pocket pull tabs; tricot lining for cozy warmth at collar, center-back panel and back of chin guard
Grow-fit feature in sleeves adds 2 inches in length for extended wear; hand-me-down ID label; Fair Trade Certified™ sewn
Weight: 434 g (15.3 oz).

Materials
H2No® Performance Standard shell: 2-layer, 5-oz 100% recycled polyester plain weave with a waterproof/breathable barrier
Lining: 2.2-oz 100% recycled polyester plain weave
Both with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish
Inner collar, chin guard, inside back and knuckle-side of pocket bags: 3.8-oz 100% polyester brushed tricot
Insulation: 150-g THERMOLITE® ECO92 100% polyester (92% recycled).

Snow Pile Bibs

These baby/toddler Bibs offer fully seam-sealed, waterproof/breathable protection and 100 grams of insulation. As with the jacket, the 100% recycled polyester fabric is soft, smooth and supple, while the Grow-fit feature extends wear.

Our favourite parent-friendly features include the articulated knees for the acrobatic youngsters; the scuff guards at the hem and inside lower legs, because you know kids will treat these bibs roughly; and the internal gaiters with loop inside hem (see above) to give you an option to add cord and keep pants from riding up in deep snow. And the three-snap adjustment on the elasticized straps is a cinch.

As with the Jacket, the H2No Performance Standard shell really works. Our four-year-old tester jumped and rolled in wet leaves for half an hour—and emerged dry on the inside, and happy.

onekwe didn’t set out to become an artist. She first became a welder with the intention of establishing herself in the trade. But, as good welding jobs are few and far between where she lives on Manitoulin Island, she began doing commissions for architectural pieces and modern furniture. “From there, I found the opportunities and the abilities in myself to create art,” she says. 76 1
