Yup, you heard that correctly. You can now call your mom from the summit of Everest, thanks to China Mobile Hong Kong and Huawei installing a 5G tower at 21,235 feet near the tallest mountain in the world. The companies reportedly used yaks to transport over 25 metres of fibre optic cable along with other supplies.
While it may seem like a disappointment to have such development in one of the most truly amazing places on earth, the practicality of it is undeniable. Check out the first sunrise ever broadcasted from the base of Everest, and keep an eye out for plenty more exciting content coming from the world’s largest mountain thanks to this new development. —ML
