Born on a chairlift in 2002, Mountain Life has become the leading voice in outdoor media across Canada and beyond. But we’ve been missing something from our collective conscience and national identity. Today, that changes.

Introducing Vie En Montagne, our homage to the characters, adventures, and issues in the outdoor community from every corner of the province of Quebec.

We’re bringing together all the creativity, exploration and authenticity from our other publications, and pouring our energy into building our brand in Quebec. Our expertly-curated bilingual content will speak to Quebecers and tourists alike, and will showcase the outdoor opportunities, businesses and people of la Belle Province.

For ML publisher Glen Harris, the move has been a long time coming. “Quebec is such a big piece of the pie when it comes to world-class play in the mountains—so this is something we’ve been wanting to do since Mountain Life was launched,” Harris recalls.

We’ve been fortunate to find and recruit Pat Wells, a local who is passionate about the outdoor sports, issues and culture we intend to showcase. What separates Wells from the pack is his extensive experience in the Quebec media landscape, as publisher of both Cyclepresse and Skipresse, and as sales and marketing director of the Tremblant Express.

‘’I’ve always felt that Quebec needed a publication that would stay longer on the coffee table and stand out from the rest,” says Wells. “After meeting Glen and the crew of Mountain Life Media, I knew their publication was exactly what was needed. Finally in Quebec we will have the opportunity to connect outdoor retailers, manufacturers, enthusiasts, writers and photographers in one happy place.’’

We couldn’t be more excited to have Pat Wells at the helm, and with his expertise we are stoked to call ourselves a bilingual national media company. So sit back and enjoy the ride—we can’t wait to tell the stories of everything that makes Quebec an amazing place to live and recreate. Vivre à fond! —ML

FRIDAY FLICK 💥 This past March, speed mountaineer Benedikt Böhm @benediktboehm rocked a five-hour sea-to-summit expedition up Mount Parnassus in central Greece. Starting at sea level on his road bike at the village of Itea on the Gulf of Corinth, he climbed up to an altitude of 2.414 metres. #linkinbio to watch the film!
I had no idea what to expect from this trip, neither from bikepacking, a fancy term for cycle touring and a sport I’d never done before, nor from Kyrgyzstan, a country most people cannot find on a map. Carl, who I’d only just met recently after moving to Canada—I’d flagged him down after backcountry skiing after seeing his Montana license plate—had invited me on this trip while on a mountain bike ride. I said no. A few weeks later I figured, “Why not?”

"@normhann and I lashed paddleboards to the roof of his truck and headed north along the Island Highway, towards Telegraph Cove. Norm had invited me to tag along on a commercial paddleboard group he would be guiding in the Broughton Archipelago. Despite a long history of SUP expeditions, I harboured some reservations."
To date, more than 6,000 people have summitted Everest, the highest point on Earth at 8,848.86 metres of elevation above sea level. And only a tiny handful of those climbers have been Black.
