Organized Crime Convict Turns to Ironman Instead

John McAvoy was born into a family and life of theft and robbery.   By his 20’s he was locked up in a high security prison for his roles in organized crime.  However it wasn’t until he learned his cousin had died during a heist that his outlook suddenly changed.  By the time he left prison, he had set a world record on a rowing machine and decided to race in Ironmans.

He admits, “I taught myself how to swim off youtube videos” and proceeded to compete in races and speak at schools about his changed ways.  Just goes to show, doesn’t matter where you start or where you come from, we all have the ability to move outside in our own way. -ML
