Marc-Andre Leclerc and Brette Harrington Explore Baffin Island

“You have to go climbing, don’t you?” postured their snowmobile outfitter.  A fair question, after a few days of  travel across sea ice, constantly rerouted by cracks and melted ice, the eral adventure started en route to their planned objective. As the ice shifted and disappeared, Brette Harrinngton , Marc- Andre Leclerc and filmmaker Joshua Lavigne were unsure they would even make it to the base of  Great Sail Peak.

The rarely climbed peak and crowned jewel of Baffin Island elusiveness is magnified by the complications of  travelling to the base of the peak, with a short window where climbing conditions are ideal and it is possible to travel across the sea ice. Real adventure is not impossible to come by these days—you just need to look in the right places.

In loving memory of Marc-Andre Leclerc, Arc’teryx Presents: Baffin.  This short film offers a glimpse into the brilliance, determination, and multifaceted skill set of Marc-Andre, and his partner Brette. Rest in peace, Marc—we will forever be inspired. —ML
