When I was looking for a pair of poles to start venturing into the backcountry, the collapsed size was the critical feature. The Black Diamond Compactor Ski Poles fit the bill perfectly, without the need to sacrifice strength and function. While not as stiff as a solid pole, the tradeoff for ease of packing is definitely worth it. The grips and straps are ergonomic and comfortable, and its quick and easy deployment make this the ultimate collapsible pole for any back country snowboard, snowshoe or ski tour. And with a collapsed length coming in at a puny 40 cm, I can fit them in almost any pack. —Brian Peech

From Black Diamond: Combining its innovative folding Z-Pole technology with winter functionality, the Black Diamond Compactor is a four-season aluminum pole that folds into an ultra-compact package for easy storage. FlickLock® Pro offers up to 20 cm of adjustability and dramatically improved clamping force in a low-profile design, while the Compactor‘s speed cone deployment allows it to deploy in a matter of seconds. Its small size when folded makes it ideal for splitboarding, snowshoeing and airline travel to distant winter destinations.

  • 18 mm (.71 in) aluminum 3-section shaft with speed cone deployment
  • Touring Series grip with fluted interior for weight reduction
  • Touring Series strap with lightweight webbing and plastic ladder-lock buckle
  • Integrated rubber grip extension
  • 100 mm (4 in) Compact Powder Baskets with 2-section pole capture
  • FlickLock Pro security and adjustability up to 20 cm

Z-Pole Techmology
Our Z-Pole Technology was born from our expertise in avalanche probes—by using a three-section shaft, a concealed inner Kevlar cord and innovative speed cones, our collapsible Z-Poles snap into place and lock with a single pull. When not in use, a single push button releases the pole for compact storage.

The Southern Interior region of BC holds an ecological cross-section of the province with alpine meadows, arid Douglas fir grasslands, damp cedar and hemlock forests of the Columbia Mountains and the warm expanse of Shuswap Lake.

Conceived by superhuman snowboarder @travisrice, the @naturalselection Tour highlights earth’s premier riders, from big-mountain mavens to Olympians, all competing on the most stoketastic—and unpredictable—terrain known to humankind.
Built upon a shared desire to enjoy, respect, and advocate for Alberta’s incredible landscapes, it was a natural fit for @elementsoutfitters to work with a local conservation organization @saltslandtrust to highlight the province’s rugged beauty and outdoor apparel to match.
