Mitts may sacrifice grip and dexterity for warmth, but this doesn’t mean that they should not have the highest level of dexterity possible. The new Arc’teryx Lithic Mitten uses the same patterning technology as the Lithic Glove. Arc’teryx Tri-Dex patterning is a three-lobe pattern that specifically maps the thumb according to its natural grasping motion. Seams are minimized and placed so as not to interfere with grip. The mitten’s finger box is also carefully patterned to provide the cleanest grip possible.
Built with rugged GORE-TEX fabric with tricot technology on the palm and fingers, highly breathable N70p GORE-TEX on the back of the hand, and constructed with fully taped seams, the Lithic seals out water, wind and snow. Laminated to the palm and fingertips, TPU reinforcements are used instead of leather. TPU’s hydrophobic properties prevent the reinforcements from wetting out. This saves weight, and more importantly, prevents the heat loss wet materials can cause. Features are selected for the realities of alpine travel. The short gauntlet fits under or over jacket sleeves, the elasticized adjustable wrist strap creates a secure seal and precision fit that keeps heat closer to the fingers, the gauntlet adjustment is easily used with the gloves on, and removable leashes help prevent dropped mittens from getting lost.
RIGHT INSULATION, RIGHT PLACE
The Lithic uses three types of PrimaLoft insulation selected and mapped to provide effective thermal performance, extended durability and high levels of ergonomic freedom. On the back of the hand, an area more exposed to cold, lofty 133g PrimaLoft Silver Insulation is used for maximum warmth. A layer of 100g PrimaLoft Silver Insulation Hi-Loft is added to the back to extend wear, particularly in high flexion areas. In the palm and fingers, areas where dexterity, grip and durability are critical, denser 100g PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco with Grip Control is used. This denser insulation has a lower profile with less bulk, resists packing out with use, provides warmth when compressed, and enables a higher level of ergonomic freedom.
