David McColm’s Spectacular Deep Sky II

It’s been days since the third annual MULTIPLICITY series, and many of us are still reeling from being blown away. Stories that would set most of our hair on end, told with the same casuality as bumping into a friend at the grocery store. These are some special people – and, not only did the audience feel it, but the presenters were in awe of one another, shaking their heads in disbelief and amazement after every plot twist.

David McColm’s unveiling of his latest video (which can be seen after the interview) was jaw-dropping in a different way, and served as the glue in the presentations: we are all people with stories, hurtling through darkness. Isn’t that cool?

Here’s what McColm had to say about it after the adrenaline of public speaking had worn off:

I went to the first Multiplicity two years ago and was blown away then by the quality of the speakers, and only missed last year’s due to being in Iceland.  So when I was invited to present at this year’s event I was pretty humbled – especially when I saw the names of the other presenters!

Each and every presenter told a story that had me on the edge of my seat, and quite literally so with Julie’s recounting her rowing into hurricanes on the Atlantic, Tim’s journey to be the first person to climb a frozen Helmcken Falls, Suz and her base jumping and, of course, Will’s footage of soaring above the Mount Robson & ice climbing Niagara Falls!   But it didn’t stop there – Chris’ mountain biking adventures, Darcy’s stories of (mis)adventure and Kirby’s talk about building playgrounds in conflict zones!  Are you kidding me?!!  Now that’s a night and a half of passion, energy, imagination, commitment, honesty.  Simply that was one mind blowing & inspiring night!

For my own presentation, I must say it was pretty darn cool to be able to present my new video about the Whistler night sky, Whistler – Deep Sky II, on multiple big screens in front of an incredible, energizing group of people – each of whom no doubt has their own stories of (mis)adventures.

Already looking forward to next year’s Multiplicty!
