Blu Wave’s mission is to design and manufacture quality boards in shapes that provide optimal paddling in the huge variety of conditions Canada offers. From their Wave series – designed to surf the smaller waves of the Great Lakes or ocean breaks in Tofino or Lawrencetown – to their Touring, Woody, or Surf series, each Blu Wave board is designed in Canada, for Canadian waters.
This is somewhat of a coming home for the brand – the Blu Wave seed was planted in the mind of founder Aaron Pilon on these waters and Blu Wave has always supported many SUP and water-based events in the region.
“The move to the Collingwood area has been a great one for Blu Wave,” says Pilon. “This community is an outdoor sports hotbed and the people who call this place home have an unwavering commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle. This aligns perfectly with our brand. We will be expanding our team, and drawing from a workforce of like-minded individuals will be invaluable. Best of all, our team will be spending more time on the crystal clear waters of Georgian Bay testing and proving our designs and board shapes, all in an effort to continue to do what we do best – produce beautiful boards that perform better than the rest.”
As part of this move and to further its commitment to growing the sport of SUP in the region, Blu Wave will be opening the Blu Wave SUP Academy at the Cranberry Marina in Collingwood in June, offering SUP instruction, guided tours and social centred paddling experiences for the local community and visitors to the area.
NEW FOR 2015: the Catalina iSUP 12.6 touring inflatable SUP. Constructed using heavy-duty double layer PVC drop-stitch construction, the Catalina iSUP provides maximum durability and portability – the board packs up into a large backpack that can be checked in as regular baggage on any airline. The exclusive V-shaped nose finally provides true displacement-hull board performance in an inflatable.
