Friday Flick: Beyond the Surface – India’s First Female Surfer

Beyond The Surface follows Ishita Malaviya – India’s first female surfer – and fellow wave riders Crystal Thornburg-Homcy, Liz Clark, Lauren Hill, Emi Koch, and Kate Baldwin through southern India. The surfers and the people they meet share anecdotes and experiences of surf, yoga, empowerment, and ecological awareness. As Malaviya and her talented group search for the ideal wave, they forge with the people of India a determination to improve the world.

Award-winning cinematographer Dave Homcy – known for critically acclaimed work in Sliding Liberia, Surfwise, Come Hell or High Water, and Shelter – has captured this groundbreaking endeavour with technical brilliance and vibrant detail.

The group is teaming up with Beyond The Surface International, a non-profit organization whose mission is to use surfing as a highly effective tool to assimilate underprivileged, homeless and orphaned children into society.
