Hearts Are Aglow for 24h Tremblant

It takes a good cause to warm the hearts and bodies of those participating in this year’s 14th edition of 24h Tremblant where more than 2,300 skiers, walkers and runners will take over Mont Tremblant this weekend to support the cause of sick or underprivileged children.

Helly Hansen Ambassador JF Plouffe will be burning the midnight oil with fellow racers making sure that everyone is both warmed up and staying warm as they participate in this great event.

With the registration period not yet ended, more individuals and teams have signed up to participate than in previous years. So far, 248 teams will meet the challenge in their way: 204 will ski, 24 will run, and 20 teams will walk over the 24 hour period.

Along with these remarkable registration numbers, it’s winter in Tremblant. The cold temperatures of recent weeks allowed Mont Tremblant Resort to declare the mountain open last November 21. Snowmaking has allowed the opening of the two sides of the mountain from top to bottom. Preparations and grooming on the 24h runs are going full speed.

The festivities will kick off on Friday night with the “Full Moon at the Summit” party, with musical director Melissa Lavergne. The talented multi-percussionist will be joined by a raft of gifted musicians and two marvellous voices: Valérie Daure and Betty Bonifassi. DJ MHBee will spin the platters that matter and surprise guests will make appearances during the festive concert. Don`t miss it – this tremendous “musical experience” starts at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are only $10.

Another recurring favourite is the concert at the foot of the slopes on Saturday night. The party opens at 8:00 p.m. with Final State. Then, at 9:00, David Laflèche takes to the stage to get spectators dancing. He’ll be joined by a non-stop lineup of stars, including Alex Nevski, Radio Radio, Brigitte Boisjoli, Nadja, Jonas, Jérôme Couture, André Papanicolaou, Joseph Edgar and Laurent Bourque. At 11:00 p.m. DJ Shortcut will keep the party and the crowd going until the wee hours and encourage the participants as they ski, walk or run through the night.

Last year, Tremblant’s 24h raised $2,042,000 thanks to the engagement of thousands of participants and donors. The organization hopes to go beyond that this year and to set a new record. More than $1.2 million has already been raised; the participants are heading into the final sprint of the donation drive. Their every effort will be focussed on supporting the sponsored children and the beneficiaries: Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles Bruneau, the Ottawa Senators Foundation, Fondation Martin-Matte and the Tremblant Foundation. The public can choose to support a team or the event itself by making a donation at www.24htremblant.com.
