Friday Flick: How to hit 56 km/ hour in a kayak

Arguably the best kayaker in the world, Ben Marr is known for going big. He’s raced Rory Bushfield down Mamquam Falls in Squamish. Descended Site Zed, the last un-run rapid on the Grand Canyon of the Stikine. And been part of the first crew to run the world’s biggest whitewater in the Congo. And now he can add hitting 56 km/ hour while kayaking to the list.

Marr hit the terrifyingly fast speed while careening down a drainage ditch in BC affectionately known as the Lions Bay Slide. The clip, filmed in October of last year, shows him hurtling down the concrete chute and getting spit out into Howe Sound. It may not have been the world’s biggest whitewater but, still, woah.
