There is a place where dreams are drawn up in dirt and then broken like bones. Where, for 10 days, the laws of gravity (and perhaps common sense) seemingly cease to exist. Where the next generation of mountain bikers emerges to push the limits of the sport and force us on the ground to rethink what is possible.
This place is Crankworx.
Back in Whistler for its 11th year, Crankworx is a Red Bull-fueled, brand-lovin’, neon-colored ode to mountain biking and a definitive departure from the quieter trail-riding culture that usually rules around these parts. And although it’s easy to lament the commercialization of it all, it’s precisely because it’s so loud and flashy that it’s able to capture the attention of not just the biking community but thousands of others who never quite understood what happens when bike meets mountain.
So as the festival kicks off today, we will be watching and waiting, already excited for 10 days of comebacks and rivalries, high stakes and higher jumps.
