Hydration Deluxe: Platypus Siouxon

Testing the Platypus Siouxon in Sedona.

The Platypus Siouxon – pronounced Sue-sonn and named for the Washington State MTB trails is an all-mountain hydration pack designed exclusively for women. Its suspension, tailored for the female body, fits a wide-range of shapes and distributes weight evenly at key points.

The slidelock closure makes getting water and ice into the 2L reservoir very easy. (Other packs on the market are comparatively awkward to fill, clean and dry.)

Another bonus is the quick disconnect drink tube, which easily removes the tube from the reservoir for storage, filling and cleaning. And while riding, the reservoir locks securely in place. The pack (with an 8L gear capacity) is lightweight and the tank-top compatible shoulder straps are comfortable without chafing. A built-in carry system makes it easy to transport a full-face helmet and pads when you’re climbing or shuttling. Packed with functional extras including a tail light attachment, tool pocket, and fleece-lined eyewear pocket.
