Boots We Like: Vasque St. Elias

The St. Elias GTX – presumably named after 5,489-metre Mount Saint Elias which straddles the Alaska-Yukon border overlooking Taan Fjord off the Gulf of Alaska – is Vasque’s lightest hiking boot.

Well-placed EVA cushioning pods conform to unpredictable trail terrain and provide cushioning to heel and forefoot. The custom-crafted lasting board – which Vasque has been famous for since 1965 – offers security and support for ascents, descents and load-carrying.

The result? Surefire traction and a spry feel (both out of the box and out on the trail), that’s unlike anything before. The all-leather upper lends a classic look but Gore-Tex technology provides failsafe waterproof-breathable performance in the messiest weather.
