Offsetters.ca is a BC-based site that calculates the CO2 emissions of your travel and buys offsets that support carbon-cutting projects worldwide. Offsetting a round-trip flight from Toronto to Vermont costs about $4.

Porter Airlines service to Burlington, VT starts on Sunday, December 14, and ends Sunday, April 6, 2014. It operates twice weekly, and up to four times weekly during peak season from February through March break. Porter offers shuttle service to Jay Peak, Smuggler’s Notch, Stowe and Sugarbush.

RESORTS

Stowe Mountain Resort won the NSAA’s top award for environmental excellence in 2000 and is the first mountain resort to earn Audubon International’s “Green Community Award.”

Sugarbush Resort won the Vermont Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence last spring for cleaning up a local brook, donates 1% of profits from its signature restaurant to environmental causes, and is participating in the NSAA’s Climate Challenge to inventory and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

LODGING, EATS, DRINK

Topnotch Resort & Spa in Stowe was the originator of the Forever Stowe partnership in support of the Stowe Land Trust.

The Inn at Lareau Farm, near Sugarbush in Waitsfield, is the birthplace of the visionary American Flatbread pizza company.

Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield is a founding member of the Vermont Fresh Network.

Prohibition Pig features locally farmed southern barbecue and craft beers in Waterbury.

American Flatbread, based in the Mad River Valley with locations in Burlington, Middlebury and New York City, features pizzas baked with local, regional, and organic ingredients according to an eco-friendly philosophy.

Smuggler’s Notch Distillery in Jeffersonville, started by an executive and his chemist son, has won multiple international awards.

Hill Farmstead Brewery, a converted woodshed recently named “Best Brewery in the World” by Ratebeer.com, routinely has lineups out the door.

The Alchemist in Waterbury cans just one beer, an American Double IPA called Heady Topper, rated third-best beer in the world by Beer Advocate.
