What better way to promote environmental awareness than through the universal medium of music? Montreal singer-songwriter Chris Velan is the latest in a string of musicians including Jack Johnson and Josh Ritter who have joined 1% For The Planet, a growing global movement of over 1,200 member companies, small and large, that donate 1% of their sales to environmental organizations worldwide. Velan is also one of over 40 artists who have donated exclusive music for the recently released compilation album 1% for the Planet: The Music, Vol. 1.

This past spring Velan launched a cross-Canada ‘1% For The Planet Tour’ in collaboration with Mountain Equipment Co-op in an effort to bolster awareness about local environmental issues and organizations working for change. Part of that promotion includes a free Chris Velan download available here.

Velan’s latest video celebrates the outdoors with shoeless exuberance.
