It always feels good to support the underdog, right? Here at Mountain Life we’re just a small crew that had a big idea. “Let’s create a beautiful magazine with minimal advertising and incredible content, and publish it just once a year,” we said one fateful night, probably over too many glasses of scotch. Some called us crazy, naive, delusional, etc., but we ran with it against some seemingly insurmountable odds and a host of naysayers who didn’t see any clarity in our vision.
- “You can’t launch a brand new title now, nobody will buy into it.”
- “Print is dead guys, but good luck.”
- “You’re trying to sell me something that I can’t even see?”
- “Sorry, not interested. Everyone reads everything on the internet anyway.”
But we had our dream team in place and a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel spark in our eyes. Eventually we managed to convince the marketing minds behind eight of today’s most well-respected brands to come on board. They believed in us and it felt good. We got cracking. And today we present you with the opportunity to be part of something unique and worthy of sharing and spreading from Coast to Coast to Coast. Our idea was to publish this for people that appreciate the art of living and breathing the outdoors. We don’t want to be the biggest or the raddest or the baddest, we just want people to enjoy and be inspired.
Mountain Life Annual features a very-rare 84% editorial content, a National Geographic-esque model that allows us to publish uninterrupted 12, 14, 18 page+ features with stunning photography. “It really gives us a chance to let our stories breathe,” says MLA editor Leslie Anthony. “And we can do justice to these amazing photographs that simply need to be seen big.”
Whistler-based photographer Justa Jeskova recently got her hands on a copy and sent us a nice little note. “You guys are doing an absolutely amazing job,” she said. “The new Mountain Life Annual is a masterpiece. I love every photo, design… now I just need to find an evening when I can sit down and start reading. Can’t wait.”
We can’t wait either so we want to spread the word. The underdog is alive and kicking — fighting the good fight.
